“Silversword Overlook” was photographed in Haleakala National Park in Maui, Hawaii. The scene shows an endemic Silversword (‘ahinahina) in bloom overlooking the pu‘u (volcanic hills) of the crater floor. Silverswords are members of the sunflower family, and when they bloom in the peak of summer, you can see the similarity in their purple flowers. This one appears to be enjoying taking in the scene of the magnificent crater floor before it.
